What is a Local Nature Reserve?
A local nature reserve is a natural or semi-natural green space, usually of national or county importance for ecology and/or geology, which provides access to nature and environmental education for the local population.

Local nature reserves are declared by the appropriate local authority, in the case of Hastings & St Leonards by either East Sussex County Council or Hastings Borough Council. All seven existing local nature reserves were designated by Hastings Borough Council.
