Rhodometra sacraria – Vestal

The vestal is a frequent immigrant to Britain from southern Europe and north Africa. It’s a very distinctive moth and easy to identify. It occasionally comes to light traps in Hastings but can also be seen on vegetation during the day where it is easily disturbed. During moth migration periods it also turns up occasionally at Bottle Alley where it is found during the day resting on the walls. The moth can occur from April to November but mostly turns up during August and September.
