Spotted a few days ago in our Fairlight garden was this colourful insect “corizus hyoscyami” of the family, Rhopalidae. First spotted in our garden in 2008 and then again in 2010 this is only our third sighting. Apparently locally distributed in sandy habitats around the coasts of southern Britain this distinctive insect has recently been found more frequently inland. It overwinters as an adult and a new generation usually appears in August to September. A great record for the garden and a sight to brighten up an otherwise rather grey day.
