Garden insects

Not so windy today, and with the sun out there was a lot of insect activity in our Fairlight garden, notably hoverflies. While stalking these with the camera I noticed a small, tubby and rather attractive fly [not a hoverfly ]resting on a Borage leaf. As yet I have been unable to identify it.

  1. It may well be Gymnosoma rotundum – a Tachinid parasitic fly. A nice picture and record.

    • Thanks Andrew that certainly seems to be it. Typically with the internet, I couldn’t fins it by searching things like “garden diptera,” but as soon as there is a definite name to check, there it is..
