Hastings Spring Bird Migration report 2012

Saturday 5th May
NE f3 or 4, overcast 8/8ths , chilly

Rock-a-Nore 0630-0740 :
Common Tern f20 E, Kittiwake 1E, Curlew 1E. 12 Gannet E. 1 Ringed Plover heard-unusual here- and 1 Wheatear on the breakwater.
Some Sandwich Terns moving E but probably just feeding birds returning to Rye.

Warrior Square
5 Wheatears together on the beach. 1 male drenched and all the birds seemed tired and dishevelled.

White Rock
3 female Wheatears. A Hobby came in low.

Bulverhythe to Bexhill pm.
1 female Wheatear able to fly but seemed to have a sprain in one wing. A small number of Swallows and Swifts passing east during the day.

West Hill
15 Wheatears, 2 immature male Black redstarts and a Whinchat also 6 Common whitethroats.
