While attempting, rather unsuccessfully, to get a decent picture of Golden Saxifrage in Fairlight Glen, I noticed a small patch of a rather tiny and insignificant plant nearby. On examination this proved to be Moschatel, which has an unusual arrangement of 5 flowers in a head-four on each side of a square, and one on top. Because of the former group it’s sometimes called Town Clock, after those well endowed edifices that have clocks on all four sides of a pillar.
I’ve not seen this plant for many years, though it is quite common.
The Friends of Hastings Country Park NR will shortly be hosting an event to explore Fairlight Glen -see link on the website-why not come along ?
