Country Park Moths

The Friends of Hastings Country Park NR have acquired a large and powerful moth trap as part of our recent Lottery funding bid, and this will be regularly run from a secure site inside the Park.

I set this up for the first time last night, and was greeted at dawn by thick fog after a clear night, not good for moth trapping !.

However there were 10 moths of 4 species in the trap, a Dotted Border and 3 classic small brown spring moths, from left to right: Hebrew Character, Small Quaker and Common Quaker. These are all common species that I catch every year at Fairlight.

A Siskin flew over while I was inspecting the trap.
