More seabirds

A pleasant 90 minute watch from Rock-a-Nore  from 0630, in bright sunshine contrasting with yesterdays wind and rain.

A good range of species flew past today, but only 3 Adult Mediterranean Gulls seemed likely to be involved in the easterly spring  movement of seabirds; its still early.

Plenty of other gulls were heading west, including 8 Kittiwakes and a high count of 54 Common Gulls. 10 Red Throated Divers, 4 Common Scoters, 5 Gannets, 2 Shelducks and 16 auks were unremarkable, but 2 Canada Geese heading E some way out were unusual. However the highlight was a Velvet Scoter flying W, only the third I’ve recorded here and the first since Boxing Day 2009.

No Sandwich Terns here as yet…
