Trooping Crumble Cap

Trooping Crumble Cap

When walking from Fairlight to Hastings I find the hardest part is climbing the Ecclesbourne Glen steps to East Hill, and am always glad of an excuse to stop. Today I encountered this nice group of small fungi growing just below the wooden parts of the steps- they are, I am pretty sure , the wonderfully named Trooping Crumble Cap, or Fairies Bonnets. Roger Phillips tells us that these are “edible but not worth considering due to small size”
