Despairing of a frost to hit the sloe berries before we harvested some for making our annual supply of sloe gin, we decided to enjoy the beautiful weather yesterday and spend a day foraging for hedgerow delights. This seems to be a fantastic year for sloes and bullaces both of which we found in abundance in our favourite location close to Stonelink Wood. We also gathered two large bags of plump sweet chestnuts which Alan is busy preparing now for the freezer. On our return journey (after an excellent pub lunch in Pett) we came across a box of Bramley apple windfalls which a thoughtful homeowner had put outside their house for people to help themselves. A rich harvest indeed and all for free!
