Hastings autumn bird migration 2011

Rock-a-Nore 0710-0830
Sandwich Tern 35W, Common Tern 1W, Gannet 24W, Brent Goose 7W 2E, Common Scoter 7E. 3 Kittiwake. 100 GBB Gulls.

Pied Wagtail 108 E along beach/at sea, Grey Wagtail 1W, Swallow 1E. Goldfinch f40 W, Rock Pipit 2+.

A Peregrine flew onto the cliffs from very far out at sea- waiting for passing migrants there ?

West St Leonards cliffs 7.10-8.30
Pied/White wagtail 140E, Grey wagtail 1E, Meadow pipit 50E, Goldfinch 1,020E, Siskin 147E, Redpoll 11E, Chaffinch 8E, Skylark 6E, Reed bunting 6E, Rook 4W 2E, Greenfinch 2E.

HCP 12.15 – 14.00
4 Common Buzzards passed – 3 thermalling high over Warren Glen seemed to try to depart E or S above Coastguards. A fourth bird then circled over the high field to get height. This was mobbed by two Crows and a Jackdaw until it climbed high.
All the while the Buzzards were high overhead one of the Carrion Crows perched in Brakey Bank gave an alarm call – a single low nasal note repeated five times… while the local Jackdaws uttered high-pitched ‘Jack!’ cries.
1 Stonechat, 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Redwing and 7 Swallows noted.

West Hill 07.45 – 08.25
Starling 9W, Goldfinch 964E, Siskin 22E, Pied Wagtail 21E, 5 in, Meadow Pipit 8E, Redpoll 21E, Chaffinch 34E, Ring Ouzel 1E (over the sea) Song Thrush 2E, Linnet 4E, Swallow 14E.
