Hastings autumn bird migration 2011

SE f1 or 2, 7/8ths clearing later, moderate to very good.

Rock-a-Nore 0705-0805:
feeding movement of Terns mostly W: Sandwich Tern 82, Common Tern 28, Arctic Tern 1 juv [actually an autumn first for me here]. Also 1 Razorbill close inshore, an Arctic Skua lingering and harrying the Terns, 3 Common Scoters E, 7 Gannets.

White Rock 06.35 – 07.10
Meadow pipit 5 over.
7 Chiffchaffs, 21 Robins.
Local breeding birds becoming more obvious, especially where moult is being completed. 15 or so Blackbirds conspicuous and 15 Dunnocks whereas until today few Blackbirds were recorded here.

West Hill 7.30-8.45
Rook 10 w, Siskin 9 e, Linnet 1 e, Swallow 7 over and 25 w, Meadow pipit 21 over including a flock of 6 s over the coast, Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 w, Yellow Wagtail 2 w, House Martin 22 w, Jackdaw 2 w, Little Egret 1 w over sea. 7 Chiffchaffs, 13 Robins.

The Quarry – Fairlight 16.00 – 16.30
Swallow 250 e, 15 Chiffchaffs and also 3 Stonechats noted.
