Hastings autumn bird migration 2011

Monday 19th September
WNW or W f2-3, clear, very good.

Air pressure modestly rising through last night and from the south. At noon today showing a similar westerly airflow to yesterday but with a more Anticyclonic influence. I wondered if this influenced the pattern of visible migration this morning with birds strongly devoted to moving quickly due west.

White Rock 7.10 – 9.25 AG
A Westerly passage recorded of Meadow pipit 146, Grey wagtail 1, Pied/White wagtail 4, Swallow 200, House martin 185, Siskin 3, Linnet 1, Chaffinch 1, Reed bunting 2
2 Great spotted woodpeckers, 15 Robins, 8 Chiffchaffs, 5 White wagtails, 1 Yellow wagtail, 1 Common whitethroat and 1 Blackcap.

Torfield 07.15 – 07.50 SB
Coal tit 1, Blackcap 4, Common Whitethroat 1, Dunnock 1, Robin 6, Chiffchaff 10

West Hill 07.50 – 08.30 SB
Swallow 350w, Meadow Pipit 44w, Chaffinch 7w, Great spotted woodpecker 1w, House Martin 230w.
Chiffchaff 2, Blue tit 8, (2 ravens, 1 Sparrowhawk circling overhead)

West Hill 12.10 – 12.45 MG
Swallow 300w (intermittent passage throughout morning and early afternoon),
Common Whitethroat 1
