Hastings autumn bird migration 2011

HCPNR Barley Lane-Ecclesbourne Meadow 0630 – 0900 AP
Willow Warbler/Chiffchaff 15 including 3 CC and 1 WW identified, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Wheatears.
Yellow Wagtail 18 W, 5E; Grey Wagtail 2W.

A movement of hirundines involving birds feeding over the sea and moving both ways along the cliffs, totalling c80 Swallows, 20 House Martins and 1 Sand Martin.

Archery Gardens 7.00 AG
1 Yellow wagtail over.

White Rock 7.20-7.40 AG
1 Yellow wagtail over. 3 Robins.

North’s Seat 10.30-11.25 AG
few migrants noted except 2 Common whitethroats and 2 Willow warblers. However a Hobby hunting and 2 Sparrowhawks circling. Locally breeding Swallows and House martins.

Barley Lane 11.25-13.00 AG
at 12.00 a large panic of gulls over Hastings and some raptors seen thermalling over the town. Then an eastward movement overhead of 9 Common buzzards and 2 unidentified Buzzard/Honey buzzard.
4 Willow warblers.

East Hill 13.00-13.15 AG
1 Common redstart. 3 Blackcaps. 2 Willow warblers. 3 Robins.
