This morning saw my first use of a newly purchased shrimp net, which I took to my local patch just E of Fairlight Cove where there is a good exposure of sand.
Amongst a lot of Shore Crabs, including some quite large ones, was this obviously different one. The flattened ends to the last claws indicate that this is a Harbour Crab, Liocarcinus depurator, quite a common crab in the channel.
As the picture shows it was an aggressive little fellow and give me quite a painful nip which I could still just about feel an hour later. Fair enough !
