Marsh Woundwort

There are a number of small shady streams just inland from Fairlight, Marsh Woundwort can be found beside one near Stonelink Wood and was flowering nicely yesterday. It is a tall, -up to 1m- elegant member of the Labiates, a group including White Dead-Nettle and Yellow Archangel, which I think is as attractive as many orchids.

While I was looking at these a couple of Crossbills flew over-they seem to be around all the time in our area now.

Our Fairlight garden moth trap produced a small selection of Common Species, close inspection of all our white walls revealed a lurking Barred Red, as usual here of the Green Form. Its well known that the better ones are usually outside the trap.
