Not very nice weather at present, but looking out of our kitchen window in Fairlight has been interesting. One picture shows a fledged brood of Coal Tits-5 yellowish juveniles and 1 adult. Proof of local breeding .
The other shows a Greenfinch taking advantage of the rather messy feeding behaviour of our Goldfinch pair. The Greenfinch’s bill is presumably too broad to fit in the holes in the special feeder and we have never seen them try. However it can easily pick up all the dropped seed in the saucer designed to catch it, we rarely see the Goldfinches doing this. As usual the Goldfinches fed quite placidly and ignored their larger relative . A charming sight [excuse the pun !]
