Rosemary Beetle

Spotted on a prostrate rosemary plant in our Fairlight garden a few days ago was this beautiful rosemary beetle, chrysolina americana. Sadly it is regarded as a fairly serious pest of rosemary and lavender, also sometimes of sage and thyme. First discovered at RHS Wisley in the mid 90’s, this continental European invader is now fairly widespread in the south-east. However the RHS still welcomes records in order to monitor the beetle’s progress.
