Fairlight Moths and birds

Despite another cold night, our Fairlight garden moth trap held a small selection of moths yesterday, including the first hawk moth of the year-Poplar, and two attractive if regular species; Green Carpet and Chocolate Tip.

There was no sign of the Nightingale I reported last week and that seems to have moved on, but a Siskin flew over the garden, the first for many weeks and a late record. The only other new migrant I saw on a 3 hour walk from home was a single Sand Martin heading south over Toot Rock- remarkably the first I’ve  seen in our area this year.
