Hastings Spring Bird Migration Survey

ENE sunny f3-4 decreasing later 1/8ths moderate to good

Brambling 1 E, Crossbill 5 E, Willow Warbler 1, Whitethroat 6, Lesser Whitethroat 1.
A birder I spoke to had seen a House Martin over coastguards.
In the afternoon a Common Tern heading E along the beach at Bexhill

West Hill 7.00-9.45
A Hoopoe seen to fly up and drop behind Holm oaks towards The Croft at 7.30. At 7.35 the flight call of a Serin was heard clearly three times from the sky but the bird could not be seen. Among birds seen coming in was a Swift spp. heading into the ENE wind. AG

Other notes of birds coming in or following the coast were 3 Swallows, 1 Sand martin, 1 Wheatear, 1 Yellow wagtail, 22 Goldfinches, 27 linnets, 8 Carrion crows, 26 Black-headed gulls and also 16 Woodpigeons west. AG, SB

Marina 12.50-15.30 AG
Birds noted heading east offshore were;- Velvet scoter f11 Common Scoter 12 Brent goose 8 Sandwich tern 50 Common tern 1 Great black-backed gull 4 Black-headed gull 21 Common gull 15

Torfield 11.15 – 12.30 SB
Willow warbler 2, Woodpigeon 6 w. Also of note 2 Peregrine seen heading west overhead from the east hill area and a Raven in combat with three carrion crow.
