Today’s “Gander at the Sea”

7.30 this morning I met Ian in the Visitor Centre car park at HCPNR, in thick fog. The sun was making a brave attempt to get through, but it did not look promising. People started turning up around 8.00 despite the fog and all were in favour of going down to the view point and waiting to see if the weather cleared. Our optimism was rewarded a little after 8.30. Ian was straight away finding birds for us to look at, the highlights being 4 Peregrines having a major dispute for 20 mins, a White Wagtail which landed next to us and an amazing 850+ Chaffinch flying east. We also saw Yellowhammer up close, Great Crested Grebe in breeding plumage, Meadow Pipit, Buzzard, Fulmar,  Greenfinch, plus many Gulls and Corvids. Ian was his usual informative self all the way through answering questions from people of varying birding experience. I believe I speak for everyone in saying thanks to Ian for a great morning, nice one.
