Farmland Birds

An early walk through a frozen Fairlight, then through the Country Park to Ecclesbourne Meadow was somewhat marred by an encounter with two out of control bloodhounds [ !!!!]-be warned-but illustrated the success of the “farmland bird crops in” the arable fields along Barley Lane. There were at least 300 Linnets- the biggest flock Ive seen anywhere for some time, 90 Skylarks, and at least 15 each of Bramblings and Yellowhammers, these showing well in hedges around the top of Warren Glen.

Otherwise it was fairly quiet, apart from an appropriate Snow Bunting circling over Firehills and then heading west. I walked back down Battery Hill to look for Waxwings-I heard one near the Post Office in Fairlight yesterday-but no luck today
