Torfield birds

Plenty of resident bird activity this morning with a good number of blackbirds, Blue tits, Great tits, four Dunnock, a few Chaffinch, Robins, three Goldcrest, two Wrens, two Song Thrush, both giving a fine singing display and rather unexpectedly, two Firecrest Regulus ignicapilla, seen low down in the bramble.
These restless tiny birds resemble the Goldcrest but are distinguished by a fiery orange crown stripe, a distinct white stripe above the eye and a black stripe through it, with the sides of the neck being a rather bronzy-green. The song is a series of very high notes at the same pitch. SB
