Goldfinches are one of the commoner migrants passing through Hastings in October and early November, a few hundred flew East  over West Hill and the Country Park this morning. As well as these migrants there are plenty of local birds too, and today the first one visited our garden feeder in Fairlight. It’s interesting to compare their behaviour with other feeder visitors-unlike the flighty tits and other finches, they sit quietly on the perch for perhaps 1o minutes, methodically picking out the tiny seeds -which makes them easy to photograph.
