Rock-a-Nore seabirds

Strong winds, rain and fog ruled out early migration watching, but 90 minutes sewatching was productive. Apart from about 40 Gannets feeding offshore, all birds flew west:

22 auks, 5 Kittiwakes, 28 Common Scoter, a Red Throated Diver, 4 Brent Geese, 3 Wigeon, 5 Great Crested Grebes and a Purple Sandpiper-the first I’ve seen this winter.

Amongst the gulls on the beach was a very large, dark mantled northern Herring Gull, L.a.argentatus-these turn up occasionally.
