Bird ringing at Hastings Country Park

Today I caught 15 each Blackcap and Chiffchaff, along with a male Goldcrest, a Reed warbler(rather a late date for catching these here) and a young Yellowhammer in the Quarry and 16 Meadow pipit, a Reed bunting (2nd ringing record) and a Linnet in the quarry field.

Seen in the area were a Snipe, 3 Buzzard, around 150 Goldfinch, 6 Yellow wagtail, 4 Tree pipit and 60 Linnet.  All in all not a bad mornings work, as there were probably around 140 meadow pipit in the field it just shows what percentage of birds present are actually caught!

  1. No recoveries as yet, although unfortunately Meadow pipits don’t seem to feature too highly on many ringers target species lists. What is interesting is that we have had no interchange with Icklesham and with their proximity and the number they catch I would have expected some! Probably shows that are birds leave the shore at a tangent, thereby we’re actually getting different birds flying over the Country Park than those at Pett levels.
