“Sussex firebug” corizus hyoscyami

This colourful bug was spotted yesterday on verbena bonariensis in our Fairlight garden. This is the first time we have seen one since one in June 2008. This used to be a rather local insect but may be becoming more common?

A Cypress Carpet was in the moth trap. This is a relatively recent colonist of Britain which we record annually.

  1. Yes Corizus is another one of those insects that used to be very local and confined in distribution that is spreading rapidly. It is very common on restharrow on the Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve to Cliff End undercliff.
