On July 1st I walked along the beach from Pett Level to Hastings, starting just before low tide. Large expanses of sand were exposed in Fairlight Cove, and hundreds of stranded jellyfish were on view. These were all a deep blue colour and up to 4 inches across, These were Cyanea lamarckii, which can apparently sting badly. I also found some good groups of Dog Whelks of many different colours.
Birdwise, on the rocks below Firehills were 32 Cormorants, 90 immature GBB Gulls, 3 Med Gulls and , unusually, 2 Grey Herons.
A Black Redstart sang briefly E of Ecclesbourne Glen, and 2 Peregrines showed well on East Hill cliffs.
